ABOUT KRISTIN CURI, LPC, LCADC, LMHC
Therapy doesn’t need to feel clinical to be effective.
I’m Kristin, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and Licensed Mental Health Counselor providing online therapy for adults in New Jersey and Florida.
I work with people dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, addiction, burnout, major life changes, and the general weight of being a person with a lot going on.
A lot of my clients are also people whose jobs require them to keep it together when things get hard- first responders, veterans, EMS and healthcare professionals, and people working in other high-stress environments.
You may be very good at functioning.
That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing okay.
MY APPROACH TO THERAPY
You can expect me to actually talk to you.
I believe therapy works best when it feels like a real conversation- not an hour of you talking while I occasionally nod and ask, “And how does that make you feel?”
I’m warm, but I’m also direct. I’ll ask questions. I’ll point out patterns. I’ll challenge you when I think it could be useful. And yes, there will probably be humor involved.
There’s room here to laugh, cry, swear, be frustrated, change your mind, and say the thing you’re worried sounds ridiculous.
You don’t need to perform therapy correctly. You just need to show up as yourself.
I’m interested in what actually changes things.
Insight matters. Understanding why you feel or behave a certain way can be incredibly useful.
But eventually, I also want us to do something with that information.
My approach is practical, collaborative, and evidence-based. Depending on what you’re working through, I may draw from:
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Motivational Interviewing
Mindfulness-Based Approaches
Solution-Focused Therapy
Trauma-Focused Therapy
We’ll identify what matters to you, figure out what’s getting in the way, and use the approaches that actually make sense for you.
You don't need to walk in knowing which modality you want.
That's my job.
WHO I WORK WITH
When you’re used to being the one who handles things.
I specialize in working with adults navigating trauma and PTSD, addiction and substance use, anxiety, depression, stress, burnout, relationship concerns, and major life transitions.
I also have particular experience working with first responders, veterans, EMS professionals, healthcare workers, and other people whose work comes with pressure, responsibility, or repeated exposure to difficult situations.
There can be a strange disconnect when you're the person other people rely on.
You can know how to function in a crisis and still struggle to switch your brain off when you get home.
You can take care of everyone else and have absolutely no idea what to do with yourself.
You can be competent, capable, and successful- and still need somewhere to put all of it.
Therapy gives us somewhere to start.
BEYOND THE THERAPY BUZZWORDS
Your life is bigger than a diagnosis.
One thing I bring to this work is an understanding that mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum.
Career, identity, relationships, health, purpose, finances, responsibilities, and the way you spend most of your waking hours all affect how you're doing.
My background also includes rehabilitation and vocational counseling, and I’m a nationally Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. That means career changes, barriers to employment, work stress, and questions about what you actually want your life to look like aren't side conversations to me.
Sometimes the work is processing trauma.
Sometimes it's managing depression or substance use.
Sometimes it's realizing that you've been living on autopilot for a long time and you're ready for something to change.
Usually, people are more complicated than one checkbox on an intake form.

Kristin provides individual online therapy for adults in New Jersey and Florida.
You don’t have to become a different person. We can start with the one who showed up.
You don't need a perfectly articulated reason for starting therapy.
Maybe you know exactly what's wrong.
Maybe you just know you're tired of doing things the same way.
We can figure out the rest together.
